Getting setup with Archer & SmartRecruiters

Last updated: December 1, 2025

Archer can access public job information from SmartRecruiters without an integration so your jobs are published, calibrated and paused automatically. All we need from you in a custom source to attribute applications.
This setup only needs to be done once, takes a couple of minutes from you, and up to two weeks from when you share the details with your Customer Success Manager (CSM) for Archer to be live.

What You’ll Need

  1. A custom candidate source — this tells you which applicants came from hackajob

  2. A custom source URL — this gives us the information we need to use the custom source.

Your CSM will use the custom source URL to get everything connected and tested.

Step 1: Create Your Custom Candidate Source

A custom source is necessary to create a custom source URL in SmartRecruiters.

You'll need Admin permission, or someone with Admin permission in SmartRecruiters to complete this step.

To create the custom candidate source:

  1. In SmartRecruiters, click your user icon and navigate to Settings.

  2. Under Configuration, click Custom candidate sources.

  1. Click Create source.

  2. Complete the details as follows:

    1. Source Name

      • hackajob

    2. Souce Type

      • Other

    3. Source Sub-type

      • Other

  3. Click Add source.

Step 2: Create Your Custom Source URL

A custom source URL is a special SmartRecruiters URL that shows where candidates apply from.

To create it:

  1. In SmartRecruiters, click any Job in the SmartRecruiters job list.

  2. Click the Job Ad tab.

  3. Click the title of the Job Ad for which you want to create a custom source URL.

  4. In the Custom Candidate Sources section, click the plus (+) icon.

  5. Use the Source picker to choose the source Type, source Sub-Type, and select hackajob.

  6. Click Create URL to generate the URL, then click the Copy icon to copy the URL to your clipboard.

  7. Copy the link and send it to your CSM. This only needs to be done once, for any job, and will give us everything we need to attribute across all jobs that Archer ingests.

Step 3: Define Filters

Archer uses a feed to read your job listings automatically, no manual uploads needed.
SmartRecruiters already provides this feed from your job board URL, so you don’t need to generate anything new.

If you only want certain jobs to appear in Archer, let your CSM know which filters to apply. You can usually filter by:

  • Department

  • Category

  • Location

Include a quick note like:

“Please include Engineering and Product roles in London only.”

Step 4. Share with Your CSM

Send your CSM:

  • The custom source URL

  • Any filtering preferences

They’ll confirm the feed setup, test that applicant tracking works correctly, and let you know when Archer is ready to start pulling jobs.

What Happens Next

  1. We test everything on our end.

  2. You’ll receive confirmation that tracking and filtering are working.

  3. Archer begins sourcing and inviting relevant candidates.

Once that’s done, your roles will update automatically and applications will flow into SmartRecruiters, no extra work needed.
